About the Designer
Dave Jenkins “Ah-ha Moment”
With over 25 years of experience in high-end, residential design and illustration for luxury builders and developers, Dave was approached with a very exciting opportunity. Early in 2009, a trend-setting Gainesville, FL builder introduced Dave to acclaimed Building Scientist, Ken Fonorow, the Home Energy Doctor, with the goal of creating the first production-built, Net-Zero Energy Home in the Southeastern US.
The fantastic success of this multiple 2010 Aurora Award winning home, ESHP plan #101 – Clearwater Model, became the inspiration for his unique residential design firm, Energy Smart Home Plans. Dave would quickly follow that groundbreaking effort by designing the most energy-efficient home in the U.S., built from ESHP plan #109 – Summerville Model, according to an April, 2012, Department of Energy, Case Study. Mr. Fonorow would again provide his incomparable Building Science expertise.
It’s no wonder that the U.S. Department of Energy’s Florida Solar Energy Center and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has named Energy Smart Home Plans the first residential design company as a Research Partner.
“We are extremely proud to have been selected by the DOE to test, document and verify the extraordinary homes built from our plans. We’re passionate and excited to offer the new housing market something to really cheer about, significantly more affordable and ‘better-living’ homes” says Dave.
