Craftsman Home Plans

Arts & Crafts Home Plans

American Arts & Crafts is often referred to as Craftsman, its cozy and unpretentious style is unmistakable and understandably popular. Craftsman Home Plans feature front porches, square tapered columns atop stone or brick bases and often both materials are used together. Exposed rafter tails and decorative brackets appear below deep overhangs with dual pitched gable and sometimes shed roofs are the norm. So, the use of transom windows to heighten narrow windows capturing natural light to brighten the home’s interior is common.

Eclectic Details are the signature of the Craftsman Style.

The attractive Craftsman style originated in southern California and is often called the Western Stick style. The style’s proportions and main detailing were influenced by a multitude of other regional exterior styles. Including the Prairie style in the Midwest, Mountain Hybrid/Log homes in Appalachia and even Coastal Southeastern homes. A great example of this last category is our own Winchester Model, Plan #563.
